Miss Rodeo South Dakota
It’s a pageant that has young women competing in the areas of appearance, horsemanship, and personality. The 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant is being held at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, now through December 9th. The pageant is usually held in conjunction with the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo also in Las Vegas.
The 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant gives young women the chance to take part in one of the greatest experiences of their lives, with the opportunity to create a good foundation in their future. One category of the pageant is the The People’s Choice Award. This gives fans of all the State Rodeo Queens the chance to click on the photos and vote for the 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant contestant of their choice.
Representing South Dakota in the 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant is Miss Kristina Maddocks from Hecla, South Dakota. She was crowned Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2013 at the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche. With the title, she also won the personality, appearance, horsemanship, speech, and photogenic categories.
22-year old Kristina is a 2008 graduate of Frederick High School. She was active in the Stateline Feeders 4-H club for 12 years, competed in 4-H rodeos and horseshows, hippology (the study of the horse) and horse judging contests. Kristina also won the Top Overall Individual award at the Western National 4-H Roundup Hippology Contest in 2006.
Kristina is very deserving of having the honor of representing South Dakota in the 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. She was named the 2006-07 and 2007-08 South Dakota High School Rodeo Queen and placed 6th overall at the National High School Rodeo Finals Queen Contest in 2007. She has also served as Jr. Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2008, 2009 South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador, 2010 Miss Days of 76 and 2012 Miss Black Hills Stock Show.
Recently graduating from the University of Wyoming, Kristina earned a degree in animal and veterinary sciences. In college she competed for the University of Wyoming rodeo team, equestrian team, and horse judging team.
But Kristina hasn’t forgotten about her small-town roots. When she isn’t representing South Dakota, she still works part time as a beef feed sales representative for Dakota Plains Feed & Grain in her hometown of Hecla, while hoping someday to own her own nutrition consulting business. Kristina does some volunteer work for the Bear Creek Roughriders Saddle Club Rodeo Queen Clinic, and loves to barrel race, hunt coyotes and pheasants, cook, play cards with her family, make her own jewelry, dance, run and wakeboard.
