Minneapolis Loses Bid to Host Wrestlemania 33 in 2017

It seemed like it was as predictable as a John Cena victory that US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis would host Wrestlemania 33 in April, 2017. That quickly changed.

Minneapolis officials placed a bid to host WWE's biggest event back in February 2015. As time went by it seemed like Minneapolis had the bid. It even went as far as a video being released by the Vikings last August in which Executive Vice President of Public Affairs Lester Bagley let it slipped that they "have Wrestlemania coming."

That was all before Orlando entered the picture.

Orlando has become a second home for the WWE over the last couple of years. WWE has partnered with Full Sail University to host NXT events, plus the WWE opened a multi-million dollar performance center to train future wrestlers. The city of Orlando offered the WWE a bid that they couldn't refuse.

Wrestlemania 33 will take place at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on April 2, 2017. This will be the second time that the Citrus Bowl will host the major event. Wrestlemania XXIV in 2008 was also hosted at the facility. The WWE will utilize the Amway Arena for their annual WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony and Monday Night Raw event the night after Wrestlemania.

Minneapolis would have another shot to host the event in 2018 if they submit another bid. 2019 would be questionable due to US Bank Stadium hosting the NCAA Final Four.
