Mike Westhoff on Patriots, and Whether They Deflated Footballs in AFC Title Game

Former NFL special teams coach Mike Westhoff joins Jeff Thurn on Monday's edition of Overtime Live from Radio Row at the Super Bowl. 

Westhoff talks with Thurn about 'Deflategate' and the New England Patriots below:

Westhoff shares as a former special teams coach how meaningless last week's discussion about 'Deflategate' was: 

"It was ridiculous. But you know how the ball situation came about, it evolved how kickers were over inflating the ball and doing every crazy thing you could imagine. So they had a ball that really constricted and exploded. So a touchback and kick-off back in the day would normally land at goal line was landing in the bleachers. It evolved to where rules are set now. To where the balls come to officials before the game, they take out the caved ball, it's buffed up a little bit, and loosened up a little bit in the locker room. And marked and used by both teams. It's evolved that way. Now the line of scrimmage ball, Tom Brady can take it home with him. They don't care. It's looked at by the official if it's up to specifications. Check the PSI. Makes sure it's correct and then he marks the ball. Then that's they use in the game. Now there was some type of alert that Indianapolis was alerted. They let officials know. The officials normally do not re-check the balls at halftime. That's normal. In this instance they did. They were alerted to some type of discrepancy. Balls went out a 13, came back at 11 (PSI). Was that done artificially, as reporters released? Jay Glazer has released how ever it happened. I think it could have happened. Did it make a big difference? I don't think it did. I don't think it made any difference at all. Could it have made a little difference? Sure. I think it could made a little bit of a difference. Did they do it? I don't know. I kind of want to defend them a little bit and trust me, I'm not a defend New England type of guy..."
