PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Two men convicted of assaulting another man on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with a metal bar have lost their appeals to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Authorities say Wesley Running Shield and Michael Alford in June 2014 used the metal bar to break the victim's leg and hand and also caused a large cut on his head.

They were convicted in February 2015 of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. They were sentenced four months later to each serve 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says the appeals court recently affirmed their convictions and sentences.
