It helped remove the sting of no longer having a school in Sioux Falls named Mark Twain.  That’s the word from Sioux Falls City Councilor Kiley as he and other council members heard from a 4th grader who wanted to honor her former school that closed at the end of the school year.

Cassidy Jennings requested to name a portion of west 27th street between center and Dakota Avenue to Mark Twain Lane.  It is only commemorative and not an official street name, so there is no expense in address changes.  The PTA raised funds for the commemorative signs.

Cassidy addressed the council by popping up on a step stool and spoke from the podium:

The reason this delegation is so important is not just that thousands of kids have been educated there, but thousands of kids have been impacted there.  There have been generations of families with memories there, and we would like to keep those memories alive.

The motion passed 8 to zero.  We have a new street in Sioux Falls, Mark Twain Lane.
