Madison Moving Forward with New Animal Shelter Project
MADISON, S.D. (AP) — City commissioners in Madison, South Dakota are taking the first steps toward building a new animal shelter for the city.
The Madison Daily Leader reports that commissioners accepted a bid and provided some of the money needed for the project.
Amert Construction of Madison provided a lump sum bid price of $86,000 with a deduction for a project donation of $4,000.
The commissioners voted 4-1 on Monday to take up to $44,000 from a storm-sewer reserve fund to help pay for the animal shelter project.
Mayor Roy Lindsay said the money was originally dedicated to storm sewer improvements in Madison's downtown area. He says the state Department of Transportation would replace the storm sewer along North 2nd Street during this year's South Dakota Highway 34 street improvement project.
