WORTHING, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man who won a $250,000 lottery prize says he had to retrieve his winning ticket from the garbage.

Kenneth Lund, of Worthing, bought the Mega Millions ticket at a convenience store in nearby Lennox. He brought it back to the store to see if it was a winner after Tuesday's drawing but mistakenly thought it wasn't, so he threw it away.

When he later found out a winning ticket had been sold in Lennox, he drove back to the store and fished the ticket out of the garbage.

Lund is a retired truck driver. He says he'll probably buy a new pickup truck with his winnings.

The odds of winning $250,000 playing Mega Millions is one in nearly 4 million.
