Loretta Lynn's family has shared some good news about the legend following a recent health scare. She suffered a stroke in May, but Lynn's brother, Herman Webb, says that she is improving.

“She can talk, and Loretta told me that she thought she’s going to be okay,” Webb tells Closer Weekly. “Her left side was kind of paralyzed, but [she can get around by] herself now, she just has to use a walker.”

Lynn was at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., when the stroke occurred on May 4. She was admitted to a hospital in Nashville and later moved to a rehab facility in mid-May. She is expected to make a full recovery.

“She seems to be coming along pretty good,” Webb adds, noting that making music has been a great benefit to her recovery process. “She’s doing really good — that’s the main thing!”

Family members have occasionally been keeping fans up to date on how things are going, including a note from Lynn’s sister, Crystal Gayle, on May 10: “Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes for Loretta. Keep them coming! We are lucky, in this day and age, to have wonderful doctors and nurses taking great care of her.”

At the doctor’s recommendation, Lynn canceled shows through early July immediately following the stroke, and has since called off dates on July 7, 8 and 21. The next remaining tour dates are set for August 24 and 25 at the Ryman Auditorium. She’s also slated to release a new record Aug. 18 titled Wouldn’t It Be Great, and the Country Music Hall of Fame is opening a new exhibit about Lynn on Aug. 25.
