Long Before He Was President Ronald Reagan Appeared On The Classic TV Game Show ‘I’ve Got A Secret’
There have been several versions of the television game show ‘I’ve Got A Secret‘, but for those of us ‘classic’ types, there was really only one. It ran on CBS from 1962 until 1967 and for the majority of those years it was hosted by Garry Moore (quick aside: Did you know Garry Moore is given credit for discovering a very young Carol Burnett?).
Since it aired on CBS and KELO TV (one of the 2 stations we could get back on the farm by Leota, Mn.), ‘I’ve Got A Secret’, along with ‘What’s My Line‘ are the 2 game shows i remember most from my childhood.
I can still recall the panelist’s that were mainstays on the show. Bess Myerson. Betsy Palmer. Bill Cullen. Henry Morgan (he was the smart one as I recall). There were others over the years, but those are the one’s I remember most.
People would come on, some famous, mostly just regular folk’s like you and me. They would have a secret that they would ‘whisper’ to Garry Moore and their secret would flash on our black and white TV screen and then the fun would begin. It was up to the panelist’s to ask questions and figure out what that secret was.
Sound like a simple premise? Sound like that couldn’t be too much fun? Well, remember, the biggest game show in history, ‘Wheel Of Fortune‘, is just the child’s game ‘Hangman’ dressed up for TV!
In this classic clip from the show, the host of the popular ‘G.E. Theater’ comes on board with his secret for the gang to guess. Don’t remember the host of ‘G.E. Theater’?
His name was Ronald Reagan. Gee, wonder whatever happened to him??
