I remember watching the Dean Martin Variety Show as a kid.

Dean would come sliding down the pole, hit the stage and we were off and running!  A drink in hand, he would perform skit's and comedy with the greatest star's in the world.  They would all stop by the show, from the other member's of the famous 'Rat Pack' to movie star's like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart...well, name a star of the day and chances are they would be there on the small screen with Dean.

Remember when he'd saunter over and open the door?  All of a sudden a surprise guest would pop in and it could be anyone from Ronald Reagan to Little Joe Cartwright to Orson Welles.

But more than anything, Dean would sing...and could he sing!  Often, he would just kind of pour himself into a lounge chair and that beautiful voice would just seem to spill out without any effort.

While Dean is, of course, best known as a pop singer, a pop music crooner, he could also handle himself real well when he ventured into the country field.

Check out that Dean Martin voice as he takes on the great Patsy Cline classic 'He's Got You'.

In this next clip. Dean puts his unmistakable take on the Mel Tillis penned Bobby Bare Grammy Award winning classic 'Detroit City'.

There's no question that Dean Martin will never be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, but man...the dude could sing a pretty good country song!
