RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Firefighters have contained a dozen small wildfires in the Black Hills region since the morning of the Fourth of July.

The Great Plains Fire Information agency says lightning sparked the blazes. They occurred on private, state-owned and federally owned land.

All of the fires have been less than a square mile in size. The largest was the Horse Trap Fire, which burned about 11 acres in rugged terrain near Minnekahta.
