MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Lighting on the newly renovated Corn Palace tourist attraction in Mitchell is coming into question.

City Councilman Marty Barington and businessman Jeff Logan say people are having trouble seeing the building's corn murals at night after the installation of bright LED lighting on the mural borders.

At the opposite extreme, Barington says colored lights under the building's three domes aren't bright enough. He says, "I want these things to dance from the interstate."

The Daily Republic reports that the council decided to install a dimmer switch for the mural lights but didn't immediately decide on whether to brighten the domes.

About 200,000 tourists annually visit the Corn Palace, which is decorated with murals made from about 275,000 ears of corn. The facility recently underwent a $7 million makeover.
