SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Letcher father and son convicted of federal tax crimes have been sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay almost $2 million.

Sixty-eight-year-old Ted Nelson and 46-year-old Steven Nelson were convicted about a year ago of hiding ownership of a farm and its income.

KELO-AM reports that the elder Nelson was sentenced this week to just under seven years in prison and his son to a year behind bars.

Authorities said the Nelsons created more than 30 trusts, corporations and other entities to hide their ownership of the farm, and also opened bank accounts with false identification information.
