Larry Fitzgerald Sr. Thinks Flip Saunders will Flip Back to Coach of the Twolves?
On the Tuesday edition of my show Overtime, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. joined me to talk Minnesota sports.
Fitzgerald Sr. has been covering sports for decades in the twin cities and works currently as the Sports Editor and Columnist for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder.
When asked about the future of the Minnesota Timberwolves and specifically the coaching spot for the 2014-2015 season, Fitzgerald spoke on how he believes Flip Saunders will take over next year as the head coach and Rick Adelman will not be back.
What a interesting thought.
Flip Saunders, currently the President of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Flip has been the coach of the Twolves before.
Whether it becomes fact or not, the pure idea sparks so many intriguing roster scenarios as well as laying out a very interesting blue print for what the Wolves could potentially do in regards to immediate production as well.
While the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwovles, Saunders compiled over 300 wins and took the Wolves to 8 playoff appearances and a conference finals berth in 2004.
Granted, there was a guy named Kevin Garnett playing for Flip then and the West wasn’t as strong as it is today. but either way, the idea as mentioned before, garners a lot of optimism from Wolves fans.
That in itself, may be a good idea because the faithful there in the twin cities are getting tired of the same song and dance.
The words “next year” have been played out and the impending future of Kevin Love has them feeling quite uneasy.
From all reports, Flips relationship with Love is strong and the trust that Love didn’t have in former GM David Kahn, he has in Saunders.
Its going to take that, plus a solid hire moving forward and legitimate pieces surrounding Love to keep him in the land of 10,000 lakes but if that solid hire turns out to be Flip, it may bode even better for the Timberwolves in regards to convincing their franchise player to stick around.
The idea as well has some negatives. Typcially, the second time around always isn’t the best idea. Like going back to your ex-girlfriend. Like sequels in Hollywood. Sometimes its better to have the memories of the first time around instead of the bad memories from the second go at it.
Plus, Flips last stop in Washington with the Wizards didn’t work out well and it was a similar situation to what the Wolves are in now and not to mention it was in the Eastern Conference not the West.
Larry Fitzgerald Sr. got me and my listeners thinking with his comments on the future at head coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves but only time will tell if his proclamation will become fact or not.
