Large Sinkhole Swallows 8 Vintage Autos. Corvette Lovers May NOT Want to Look

A large sinkhole opened up early Wednesday morning beneath the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, swallowing eight vintage autos on display.

Thankfully, the ground gave way early in the morning before the door were open to the public and no one was in the museum at the time. The sinkhole appeared to be about 20-35 feet deep and 40 feet wide, and opened up under a domed section of the museum where classic autos were on display on pedestals.

According to NBC News, the rare cars that were involved in the collapse were: (I can’t look…)
1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors
1962 Black Corvette
1984 PPG Pace Car
1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette
And, of course, security video cameras captured the painful scene.

Ouch.
On a personal note, the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky., is where my father purchased his Corvette. He doesn’t drive it much but said the experience of literally driving a car off an assembly line was thrilling.
