Ronnie Milsap is re-imagining his 1981 honky-tonk breakup song "No Getting Over Me" with some help from Kacey Musgraves. The new rendition of the song plays out in a call-and-answer style; readers can press play above to listen.

"Well, you can walk out on me tonight /  If you think that it ain't feeling right / But, darling / There ain't no getting over me," Milsap sings to open the first verse, which Musgraves finishes: "Well, you can say that you need to be free / But there ain't no place that I won't be / Sweet darling / There ain't no getting over me."

The pair then launches into a back-and-forth chorus, before they harmonize on the last verses. "I'll be the bill you forgot to pay / I'll be the dream that keeps you awake," Musgraves and Milsap sing. "I'll be the song on the radio / I'll be the reason you tell all the girls no."

"No Getting Over Me" became Milsap's 18th No. 1 hit on the Billboard country charts in the early '80s; it was also a No. 2 hit on the adult contemporary charts and a No. 5 hit on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

“Singing with Kacey is so much fun. She’s a pure vocalist and knows how to lean into a melody,” Milsap tells People of working with Musgraves. “Having her on this gave the song a whole new twist, which is what music is all about. How do you take what you know and make it even more?”

Milsap and Musgraves' rendition of "No Getting Over Me" will appear on the country legend's upcoming album, Ronnie Milsap: The Duets. The epic project is set to drop on Jan. 18, People reports, and will feature collaborations with Willie NelsonGeorge Strait, Dolly Parton, Jason Aldean, and Little Big Town, among others.
