‘Justice League’ Movie Won’t Happen Right Away, Says Henry Cavill

Now that ‘Man of Steel‘ has raced off to a $400 million worldwide gross (and counting), fans have renewed their clamoring for that oft-rumored ‘Justice League‘ movie. But according to Superman himself (a.k.a. Henry Cavill), we all need to cool our jets.

“‘Justice League’ could be great if done correctly,” enthused Cavill during a recent interview with ABC. However, he quickly cautioned that “It’s a very tough one to do because the DC comic heroes are all god-like in their power. So in this real world universe, real-world setting we’re telling our story in, it’s going to be tough to achieve that.”

As Entertainment Weekly notes, Cavill’s comments echo a common refrain when it comes to DC’s stable of characters; unlike Marvel’s heroes, who were designed to be as flawed as ordinary people, the Justice Leaguers aren’t as easy to relate to on a human level, which makes them fairly problematic as the central characters in a movie — much to the chagrin of a list of filmmakers that includes George Miller, who had his ‘League’ cast signed and ready to roll before Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the production back in 2008.

That doesn’t mean it won’t happen; where there’s a $400 million gross, there’s a way. It’s just that, as Cavill concluded:

It has to be done very delicately with a lot of thought. So, it won’t be right away. I hope it’s not, anyway. It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters and introducing them together in one way or another.

But don’t feel too bad, ‘Justice League’ faithful — we still have the fast-tracked ‘Man of Steel 2′ to look forward to.
