It's well over a hundred years old. And yet 'His Eye Is On The Sparrow' lives on.

I can remember when I was a little kid back there on the little farm near Leota, Minnesota, my folks had the song on an album by...

I honestly don't remember who.

The gospel classic has been recorded by hundreds of artists.

But what i do remember is my Mom singing along to it as it played on our console stereo, and I remember watching the album spin around and around in all it's 33 1/3 rpm glory.

There was a time when virtually every country music artist would release a country/gospel album (in fact, several). Those days may be largely gone...I suppose there's just not enough money to be made in it. But thankfully, some artists still do.

Alan Jackson has released them and in fact has a new collection coming out. And it was a few years back that John Conlee (a man who should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame) released his  'Turn You Eyes Upon Jesus' album. And there was a great surprise!

John included 'His Eye Is On The Sparrow' on the album. And it sounds just as good today as it did when it was written back in 1905. And like any good song, it brings me back...back to the day of watching my Mom iron clothes on that ironing board in the kitchen and singing along to this all-time great gospel classic.
