Sunday’s NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway, was my kind of race. There’s one thing that makes a good race, and that’s cars passing cars, period.

It’s not about how fast they’re going, crashes or who dominated the race. It’s how many passes are made that makes excitement.

And that is what we saw on Sunday at the Texas race. Just looking at three drivers in the top five: Johnson went from 24th to the win, Kyle Larson from 32nd to 2nd and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. stormed from 37th to 5th. That’s three drivers passing 85 cars alone!

And Larson had to do it twice. He started at the back of the field and worked his way toward the the front. Then got penalized and sent to the rear and had to fight his way up again. This makes four second place finishes for Larson this year plus a win.

The other drivers in the top five were Joey Logano third and Kevin Harvick fourth. See where your driver finished.

As far as Johnson getting his first win of the season, he did it on a track that he has been extremely successful on. He has more wins than anybody at Texas Motor Speedway.

He’s won there now seven times. More importantly, he has led more laps than any driver on this track with over a thousand circuits out front.

Sunday he started at the rear, but before the race was even close to half way over, he had cracked the top ten. He passed Joey Logano on lap 318 of 334 for the lead and pulled away for the win.

After winning the race Johnson was treated with IV’s at the care center for lack of hydration. He overheated in the car due to failure of the in-car cooling system and was unable to get fluids.

Next up for NASCAR racing, a break for Easter, then Bristol the next week.
