Here's a tip:  If you're going to a South Dakota State football game, don't leave early!

Each of the Jackrabbits' past two contests have featured furious fourth quarter rallies, both ending in SDSU wins.

Two weeks ago it was South Dakota State putting up 15 points in the final 12 minutes to beat Missouri State; last week the Jacks were on the receiving end of a Northern Iowa comeback that featured 14 UNI points in 90 seconds to tie the game with 3:30 left.

But SDSU managed the final score of the game, a Justin Syrovatka 44-yard field goal with 1:47 left, to escape Cedar Falls with a 31-28 win, keeping their FCS playoff hopes alive.

I asked SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier about the frantic finish at Northern Iowa:

This week, it's the annual Hobo Day celebration, which means lots of off-the-field homecoming festivities and a pretty good football game as well as the 15th ranked Jackrabbits host #16 Youngstown State.

The Penguins boast the second best defense in the Missouri Valley Conference, allowing just 17 points and 302 yards per game.

Offensively, YSU returns running back Martin Ruiz, who scored two touchdowns vs. SDSU last year.  The Penguins have a freshman, Hunter Wells, at quarterback, and he's coming off a big day in his first MVC start, 21-of-28 for 269 yards and a touchdown against Southern Illinois.

I asked Coach Stiegelmeier about the match-up with Youngstown State:

Kickoff is 2:00pm in Brookings Saturday.

SDSU is back on the road next Saturday at #1 North Dakota State.
