August 3 is National Grab Some Nuts Day! So, um, go grab some, I guess. It is apparently a day to celebrate nuts, you know the food. But somebody needs to talk to the folks that came up with the name. I know I have a juvenile streak, but come on! I can't be only one that giggles like a 12 year-old at the name.

Did you know that what is a nut is different depending on who you talk to? If you're talking to a botanist a nut is a thing with an inedible hard shell and a seed, which is usually edible and the shell does not open to release the seed. Chestnuts, hazelnuts and acorns are true nuts. In a strict sense, everything else we think of as nuts, are not.

What we in the non-botany world call nuts are culinary nuts. Usually meaning seeds with a hard shell and edible insides. Like walnuts, peanuts, almonds and cashews.

No matter what you call or how you classify them, nuts are delicious! By themselves, mixed in with something, roasted, raw, or in butter form. Just don't call it 'nut butter.'

Nobody seems to know why  National Grab Some Nuts Day is a thing or who came up with the idea. But, here we are, so let's celebrate our holiday all about getting some nuts in your hands by looking at some pictures of nuts.
