In 1969 you couldn't get away from a song called 'Games People Play'. And that was OK. You didn't want to.

Written and recorded by Joe South (By the way, one of the great songwriter's of the past half century, he also wrote the Lynn Anderson classic 'I Never Promised You A Rose Garden' and others), the song was a snap-shot of social commentary that still resonates today.

But when I say you couldn't get away from this great song, I mean it was all over the radio! Almost concurrently with Joe's pop/rock smash, Freddy Weller released his version and with his great voice (and I LOVE the steel at the open) the song was a huge Top 5 country hit!

A great song knows to musical genre' boundaries. I'll still crank up either version and sing along.
