Is Twins Aaron Hicks Really Ready for Majors?

The Minnesota Twins former first-rounder and outfielder Aaron Hicks earned a spot as the starting center fielder after a promising Spring Training. However, Hicks has looked rusty and many have wondered if he is ready for the Big Leagues.

During Spring Training, Hicks hit .350/.397/.650 with four home runs, 16 RBIs, 16 runs, and three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, in eight games so far this season, Hicks is hitting .057 with no home runs, two hits, one run, three RBIs, and has struck out 16 times.

His latest troubles in the Majors happened this last week in Kansas City, where he struggled at the plate. Manager Ron Gardenhire showed his frustration by saying, “A frustrating game for me because of silly little things that bother a manager.”

Hicks biggest mistake was when he failed to run the base paths at full speed when the Royals Lorenzo Cain dropped a ball in center field.

It’s been a slow start indeed for one of the Twins top prospects, and perhaps a stint in Triple-A Rochester would help him get some confidence. In fact, Hicks never even played AAA baseball. His highest level of play was at Double-A New Britain.

The Twins had to know Hicks was going to have some growing pains after trading away Ben Revere and Denard Span to give him a shot at the Majors, and over time, he will only get better. Twins management and fans can only hope so at least.
