Before he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in 'Dallas Buyer's Club' and before he went shirtless in 'Magic Mike', he was a 'Surfer, Dude'.  He's had parts in the movies 'We Are Marshall' and 'How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days' and even was a bit 'Dazed And Confused'.  But before being in these movies, and many others, Matthew McConaughey was considered a "video babe".

Yes, the Hollywood superstar once played the role of a 23 year old handsome "video babe", chasing his young girlfriend in a cornfield, giving her some bedroom eyes, and even skinny-dipping in the 1992 video from Trisha Yearwood, 'Walk Away Joe'.  If you remember, the song also features Don Henley on vocals.

Trisha Yearwood says he was cast from a local pool of talent in Austin, Texas, where the video was shot.  But even though they were in the same video, Yearwood and McConaughey never actually met.

The performance with Don Henley was shot in Nashville, so I never met Matthew. About 10 years ago, we were both at the Grammys and trying to connect but we kept missing each other.  He was backstage when I was in the audience, and vice-versa.

Even though the connection never took place, Yearwood says she feels partly responsible for discovering his talents early on.  She also says,

Honestly, I'm so happy to see him recognized for his work in 'Dallas Buyer's Club'.  And if he ever wants to be in another Trisha Yearwood video, I won't make him audition.

Here's a look at the young McConaughey in the the video from the song that reached number two on the U.S. Billboard country charts, 'Walkaway Joe'.  You might have to do a double-take...it almost doesn't even look like him!
