In the final game before the All-Star Break, the Iowa Energy took down the Sioux Falls Skyforce 122-93 at the Sanford Pentagon Tuesday night.

Nineteen straight Iowa (9-26) points in the fourth period lent to the final margin. Sioux Falls (22-14) was outscored 34-17 in that final stanza.

Skyforce Head Coach Nevada Smith says defensively some adjustments are needed.

“Our communication defensively has to be better. We do a good job in practice, but it feels like when we’re on the court we’re not as good as we are in practice. We’ve got to figure out how to carry that over to the game at the same level we’re practicing.”

Center Keith Benson agrees that it’s the minor things that produced open looks for the visitors.

“I think it’s just basics. In practice we went over staying in front of the ball on pick and roll defense. We went to zone for a bit and the game picked up, but we still couldn’t improve our ball screen defense.”

Offensively Benson was top producer leading all players with 29 points with 13 rebounds. Jabril Trawick came off the bench to score 19.

Meanwhile Iowa had 8 players score 10 or more with Cartier Martin and JaKarr Sampson both with 18 points.

Both teams will be back on the court next week with Sioux Falls at Oklahoma City next Wednesday (February 22) while Iowa will host Salt Lake City on Thursday (February 23).
