In the opening segment of the "Legendary Performances" video below celebrating the incredible career of Tammy Wynette, it's mentioned that "you've just been in Nashville for a few months and you're already making quite a name for yourself."

Quite a name is right!

Tammy Wynette rightfully has her name mentioned among the greatest in country music history.  You can't mention legends like Williams, Wells, Cash, Owens, Jones, Lynn, Parton and Twitty without including Wynette.

From her first Top Ten hit in 1967 (the year of the opening segment of this tribute) "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad," through her signature song "Stand By Your Man" to her final Top 10 hit in 1985, there was rarely a month (or week!) that the name Wynette was not in the Top Ten, either as a solo artist or with her duet partner (and for a time, husband) George Jones.

After years of medical problems, Tammy passed away in April of 1998 at the much too young age of 55.  But what a treasure trove of great country music she left us.

For younger folks let's, perhaps, introduce you to a lady that still impacts country music.  For us older people, let's re-live the greatness that was Tammy Wynette.
