During a late night get together on Willie Nelson’s bus on Music Row in Nashville, I asked the legendary songwriter entertainer---what does it take to make it in Country Music? Here’s what Willie told me:

“You’ve got to have a lot of patience. You have to be ready to wait and to keep doing what you’re good at until somebody notices you. That’s just about it. You need to find places to play and showcase your talents until that one time comes along---your big moment. All of a sudden everyone is watching you when that day happens. You got to be ready.”

Although it’s been decades since his career exploded, Willie says he’s having the time of his life right now: being able to pursue his love of music with passion and his fans love Willie.

“We have fun playing music and all kinds of music. You know during the course of the evening, we will play something whether it’s country, jazz, rock ‘n roll, gospel, bluegrass. We always have fun doing it. People like that.”

And that is an understatement!

With Willie Nelson, I’m Jerry Dahmen for I Love Life.
