UPDATE TO STORY

Matthew Cordle has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison with no chance of early release and a lifetime driver's license suspension. As Matthew promised, he pled guilty and took responsibility for the horrible crime that ended Vincent Canzani's life

Matthew Cordle, thank you for staying true to your word.

Rest in peace, Vincent Canzani.

The social movement "Because I Said I Would" is dedicated to bettering humanity through the power of a promise. A new video posted this week by a man confessing to the crime of killing another man while drinking and driving, BEFORE any charges have been filed, may be the most powerful video against drinking and driving yet.

The website sends 'promise cards' anywhere in the world that requests them. People use them to write out their promises like "I will sleep outside every night for two weeks starting on Thanksgiving to raise awareness and donations for the homeless", or "I will walk the 240 miles across the state of Ohio to raise awareness and donations for victims of sexual abuse."

On August 9th, a man contacted the organization through their Facebook page asking for help. They receive thousands of messages every month, but this one stood out. Matt wants to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving, by confessing to killing a man in June 2013 while driving under the influence.

Take a few minutes to watch this video. Watch it with your kids, your grandkids, and then share it with your family and friends, post it to your Facebook page and help spread the word. We all need to take more responsibility for our actions and raise awareness.

Because I Said I Would.
