PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A million-dollar upgrade to Hyde Stadium in Pierre is over deadline, resulting in hefty penalties for the contractor.

The Capital Journal reports that Midwest Construction is subject to a $250-per-day penalty because it missed the May 15 completion deadline.

Spokeswoman Glennis Zarecky says the company is at the mercy of suppliers. Zarecky says ordered railing and fencing should arrive by early next week, and the remodeling is expected to be done in a couple of weeks.

The 81-year-old baseball stadium has about 1,500 seats. Nearly 600 are being added. The renovation project funded by both public and private money also includes picnic and plaza areas and seating for people with disabilities.
