The Unified Relay Across America presented by the Bank of America is a nationwide event that begins with the lighting of a torch from the Flame of Hope. This extraordinary Special Olympics Flame of Hope was initially lit in Athens, Greece from a torch ignited by the sun's rays. It was transported across the Atlantic to three East Coast locations and began its coast-to-coast trek on May 26th. It will be carried from city to city, through all 50 states as it makes its way to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in July.

This high profile event is coming through five of our communities from June 20, 2015 through June 23, 2015. The Relay will be here in Sioux Falls on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 4 PM to approximately 7:45 PM and again Sunday morning, June 21, 2015 from 7 AM to approximately 1:10 PM.

The deadline for your opportunity to carry a torch along a portion of the route is midnight on Monday, June 8th. Register as an individual or as a team of torchbearers for a half-mile walk or run segment. Or register for a five-mile bike segment. You need to sign up and raise or pay the $110 it costs to walk, run or bike a segment in the Relay.

All funds raised go to Special Olympics as it continues its mission of providing sports training, competition opportunities, support, education and advocacy to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities.
