On Monday I did a story answering the question whether there were more people or cows living in South Dakota. Believe it or not, the correct answer was cows.

After I published the story, I was asked several times what the population of South Dakota was. We are talking people now, not cows.

As of 2013, South Dakota's population was estimated to be 844,877. It ranked 46th out of the 50 states.

I look at that ranking from a different angle. I see it as ranking 5th in the nation. South Dakota comes in number five on the list of least crowded states.
