HOT SPRINGS - Residents of the southwestern South Dakota city of Hot Springs have narrowly decided to buy the oldest tourist attraction in the Black Hills.

Residents on Tuesday voted 380-369 to allow the city to borrow up to $1.9 million to buy and renovate the warm mineral water park Evans Plunge. Voter turnout was 30 percent.

Evans Plunge has been up for sale for years. City Administrator Harley Lux says buying it will allow for local control and give the city the ability to keep it open to the public, possibly year-round.
