Hope For Henry – Daycare Kids Put on Bake Sale to Benefit Friend With Cancer

The school aged kids at Grand Fun Alley in Sioux Falls do an annual lemonade stand and bake sale and give proceeds to charity. The event was held today, but this year they aren't giving the money to charity. They are giving it to one of their own.

Henry Quick is 4-year-old preschooler at the center. In February he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. According to Kelsey Knutson of Grand Fun Alley, he's going through chemotherapy now and will require a bone marrow transplant in Minneapolis. Henry's parents, Ryan and Misty Quick, will definitely need all the help they can get.

His 6-year-old brother, Will, is one of the school aged kids who would be working on the bake sale benefit. To help out their friend's family, the kids decided to do the benefit for Henry.

The kids, along with help from their parents, had a huge table of treats. For a freewill donation you could get whatever you wanted, and with the amount of food they had, you would have had to take a lot to be greedy. To me it seemed people just showed up to drop off cash and didn't really care about the treats. That was just a perk.

Knutson said their goal was to raise $300. When I stopped out there for a brownie and lemonade at 11 A.M. she knew they had blown that goal away. One anonymous man stopped out and dropped off a $100 bill. That makes for an expensive plate of treats, but for a worth while cause.

As of 2 P.M. they were up to $2,465 and money was still coming in.
