A healthy relationship from long distance was the difference in a 138-126 Sioux Falls Skyforce win over the Texas Legends on Saturday night from The Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

Never before have we seen the likes of the three point barrage that was employed by Sioux Falls (6-7) in their franchise history.  A new team record of 23 makes from downtown in one game shattered the previous standard of 17.  Andre Dawkins drilled 12 which is also a team record for connections in a game by one player.  Three different players had shared the old mark of 10.

What made the exhibition so demoralizing was the Skyforce did their distance damage with 31 attempts (74 percent).  Dawkins began his assault on the record books by coming off the bench at the 7:08 mark and hitting a runner in the lane one minute later.  By the end of the first quarter Dawkins had 20 overall with 5 bombs on the board.  Talk about bringing the (Miami) Heat!  The NBA assignee finished with 42 points for the game with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  That’s the most points scored by a member of the ‘Force since Demetris Nichols hit the same mark on February 19, 2013 against Iowa.  In a performance that could be described as “legendary,” feel free to view the highlights above.  It makes you feel for Tyler Johnson whose 31 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists is in a pretty big shadow.  You can still see his reel below.  Larry Drew II with 17 points plus 11 assists and Shawn Jones contributing 14 points with 11 rebounds also were noteworthy.

The Legends (8-5) actually held a double digit lead midway through the first quarter and were up 44-39 in the second stanza.  Once the jet engines roared, a 30-10 run into halftime put Sioux Falls ahead for the duration of the contest.  Four Texas players tallied at least 20 counters with Damion James flirting with a triple double (27 points, 13 rebounds 7 assists), Ivan Johnson (26 points), Eric Griffin (23 points, 8 rebounds) and Booker Woodfox (20 points, 6 rebounds).  Nonetheless the Legends’ 10-37 effort from beyond the arc was paltry compared to the visitors.

Christmas Day awaits us all and the Skyforce will home for the holiday with Rio Grande Valley coming for a visit.  Texas will rest until Saturday December 27 and play host to the Reno Bighorns.
