Local theatre has so much going on right now, and one example is the DAPA and Augustana's Theatre Company production of Urinetown.

Urinetown, for those of you who don't know, is about greed, love, and rebellion. Urinetown is set in a time when water is worth its weight in gold, but obviously upbeat music, incredible dance numbers and an outrageously funny story keep things light.

DAPA stands for The Dakota Academy of Performing Arts and they partnered with Augustana University Theatre Company to put together a summer camp for area high schoolers. However, this show isn't just for the kids. Augie staff, alumni, and theatre majors help to staff the experience and serve as directors, mentor professional actors, and so on. 24 area students are involved, from 9 different area high schools and all seasoned DAPA actors.  They will perform alongside 2 DAPA directors in the production. Urinetown is a fully staged, fully produced full-length musical with top of line talent and exciting production values.

The show only has three performances, so you don't want to miss it. Showtimes are July 29 at 7 p.m. and July 30 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Augustana's campus at the Edith Mortensen Center.

Tickets are available at www.washingtonpavilion.com and are only $8.

And because I know people who know people, I even got some pictures from one of their rehearsals. Here is a little snippet of what to expect.
