Harrisburg Student Wins Congressional Art Competition in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The artwork of a Harrisburg high school student will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol after winning a national contest.

U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem says an oil and acrylic painting by student Gabe May was selected as South Dakota's winner of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.

May's painting will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. He will also receive a roundtrip ticket to and from Washington, D.C.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982. Each congressional district has one winner.

The second-place winning entry from South Dakota was that of Sioux Falls student William Drzycimski. His acrylic painting will be displayed in Noem's office in the nation's capital.

The South Dakota Arts Council collaborated with Noem in the state's competition.
