MADISON, S.D. (AP) — The death of a longtime doctor in Madison has delayed ground-breaking for a $37 million hospital.

Richard Sample was a past president of the medical staff at the existing Madison Community Hospital and president of Interlakes Medical Center in the city. He died last Thursday of cancer at age 64.

Hospital CEO Tammy Miller says Sample had been a part of planning for the new hospital since the beginning.

Ground-breaking for the new facility has been moved from Tuesday to Thursday.
