BURKE, S.D. (AP) — A Gregory man accused of killing his infant son by shaking him and causing severe brain damage has been found not guilty on all charges.

The Daily Republic reports that a Gregory County jury deliberated for about seven hours Wednesday before acquitting 24-year-old Adam Bruns on charges including second-degree murder in the March 2014 death of 3-month-old Levi Bruns.

Adam Bruns had been on trial since Oct. 24. Defense attorney Tim Rensch said the acquittal "is a long time coming." Bruns declined comment.

Bruns could have faced life in prison had he been convicted. He testified in his own defense during the trial, saying he had held his son upside down to clear his airway because he thought the boy was choking.
