PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A fund set up to honor the late outdoor broadcaster Tony Dean and his wife will award new grants next spring to help support South Dakota projects that educate young people about the outdoors and conservation.

The Tony and Dar Dean Outdoor Education Fund offers grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 to projects involving youth conservation education in South Dakota.

Applications can be submitted from Jan. 1 to March 15. A total of $4,000 in grants is available.

The state Department of Game, Fish and Parks says the grant money can be used to pay for travel by students or groups to educational events, buy supplies and materials to promote outdoor knowledge and skills, and develop new events and activities.
