Governor Daugaard to Release Results of Pheasant Habitat Group

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard plans to release a report Tuesday that compiles the recommendations from this year's Pheasant Habitat Work Group Summits.

Daugaard hosted meetings across the state this year to hear from landowners, sportsmen, people who work in the tourism industry and others to learn about the current state of pheasant habitat and how it can be expanded.

This year's tally of young pheasants found an average of 2.68 pheasants per mile, a 76 percent increase from 1.52 in 2013. Officials say it's a good sign bird numbers in the state are expected to increase a year after one of its lowest brood counts in three decades.

The governor will discuss the recommendations in the report at 4 p.m. in Sioux Falls at the Game, Fish and Parks Outdoor Campus.
