South Dakota’s current governor will testify in front of its former governor.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard will testify next week before the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on funding for road and bridge repairs. Former governor and new U.S. South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds is a member of the committee.

Funding repairs to the state’s roads and bridges was one of Daugaard’s top priorities in his state of the state address earlier this month.

Besides the governor’s $50 million roads proposal, there is another $100 million proposal from an interim committee that studied the topic this summer.

Lt. Gov. Matt Michels made the announcement Friday morning while filling in for Daugaard in the governor’s weekly news conference.
