PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is part of a National Governors Association task force looking at ways states can improve the quality of health care and cut the cost of public health programs.

The task force of a dozen governors will focus on state efforts to redesign health care delivery and payment systems. The National Governors Association says governors are developing innovations in the Medicaid program, but they need flexibility to implement changes in the state-federal program that provides health care to low-income people.

The association says the task force will identify areas where federal legislation or regulatory changes are needed to reduce barriers to state initiatives.
