Governor Appoints Judge to Fill New 7th Circuit Judgeship

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Governor Dennis Daugaard has appointed a new circuit court judge to fill a new judgeship created by the state Legislature this year.

Daugaard says Magistrate Judge Matthew Brown, of Custer, will preside as a circuit court judge in South Dakota's Seventh Circuit Court.

The seventh circuit includes Custer, Fall River, Oglala Lakota and Pennington counties.

Brown has served as a magistrate judge in the seventh circuit since 2014.

He has worked for Black Hills Legal Services, the Pennington County State's Attorney's Office and for the Custer County State's Attorney's Office. He has also served as a special assistant attorney general.

Brown is a 1996 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, and a 1999 graduate of The University of South Dakota School of Law.
