PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota's Canada goose hunting season opens Sept. 1 across much of the state, and the mourning dove hunting season starts statewide.

Goose season is open until Sept. 30 in Unit 1, which includes most of the state. The daily limit is 15, with a possession limit of three times the daily limit.

From Sept. 1-30, nonresidents may not hunt in the counties of Beadle, Brookings, Hanson, Kingsbury, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Moody, Sanborn, Turner, Union and Minnehaha.

Hunters may donate Canada geese to help feed the needy through the Sportsmen Against Hunger's goose donation program. Geese taken from Sept. 1-20 may be donated to participating processors at no charge.

Dove season runs through Nov. 9. The daily limit is 15 and the possession limit is 30.
