Changes to the archery deer season could be coming in 2015.

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission proposed requiring a free access permit for anyone wanting to Newton Hills State Park south of Canton. Hunters must also carry an archery any deer license to obtain the permit.

Large numbers of people from nearby Sioux Falls and other neighboring communities. The GFP wants to collect hunter and harvest data to help improve deer management.

The GFP Commission also proposed issuing 20 archer access permits for the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve near North Sioux City. Hunters would be able to apply for a free permit after obtaining a any antlerless archery tag. If the proposal is approved the season would run from Sept. 26, 2015 - Jan. 15, 2016.

The Commission will finalize this proposal at their meeting on June 4 and 5 at the Ramkota RiverCenter in Pierre. Written public comments may be sent prior to June 4 to wildinfo@state.sd.us.
