It can be pretty difficult to get up off the couch with the warm snuggly blanket and go outside to enjoy the winter season.  But people need to remember to remain active during this time of year.  Leave it to South Dakota State Parks to get you moving with snowshoe hikes.

On Saturday, January 17th, 2015, the Richmond Lake Recreation Area near Aberdeen, South Dakota invites experienced and novice snowshoe hikers through the winter beauty of Forest Drive.  A limited number of snowshoes are available for this wintery hike and pre-registration is required by calling 605-626-3488.  The snowshoe hike begins at 1PM.

The George S. Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills is also inviting people to get out and enjoy a Snowshoe Walk In The Park.  No experience is necessary for the hike on Saturday, January 24th, 2015, and snowshoes are provided. A Mickelson Trail pass is required along with pre-registration by calling 605-584-3896.
There is no cost to participate in the Snowshoe Hikes, but a park entrance license may be required.  Participants are encourage to wear sturdy shoes or boots and remember to dress in layers.
