Get Fat With A Smartphone
There is a chance that either you, or someone you know, received a new Smartphone as a gift this Christmas. But along with all those free apps, you might also be adding a few extra pounds to your waistline because of that new Smartphone. Researchers from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio are now saying that the user of the Smartphone is quickly becoming the new couch potato.
If you’ve noticed that you have gained a few pounds lately and really not sure why, there’s a pretty good chance that you can blame your Smartphone. The Smartphone is quickly becoming the equivalent of watching television, decreasing your levels of physical activity and fitness.
One of the authors of the study, Jacob Barkley says
Using a cell phone doesn’t have the same kind of negative stigma that sitting on the couch and watching TV has, but it can be just as bad for you.
Of the people that did participate in the survey, it was found that the average person spent almost five hours a day on their Smartphones, which included sending hundreds of text messages. But those that spent the most time on their Smartphones engaged in more settled activities, like watching TV and movies, surfing the internet and playing video games…sometimes up to 14 hours a day. Guess it makes sense then that these avid Smartphone users were found to be less fit than those who averaged only about two hours of daily use.
Maybe one of this year’s New Year’s resolutions is going to have to be changed from “this year I’m going to get off the couch and do something”, to “this year I’m going to get off my PHONE and do something”. But guys, you still might want to be careful when your favorite lady says, “Does this Smartphone make my butt look big?”
