Longtime Grand Ole Opry member George Hamilton IV died on Sept. 17 following a heart attack. This week, the talented country icon will be laid to rest following a special public memorial service in Nashville.

A visitation for Hamilton -- known as the International Ambassador of Country Music -- will be held on Tuesday (Sept. 23) from 4PM to 7PM at the Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in the Nashville suburb of Franklin, Tennessee. The service is extended beyond friends and family -- the general public, especially fans of the late icon, are invited to pay their respects.

A memorial service will follow on Wednesday (Sept. 24) at the Church of Country Music, the Ryman Auditorium. The service will begin at 11AM local time, and like the visitation, it is open to the public.

Hamilton's family requests that flowers not be sent to the services, instead requesting donations to the Fries Memorial Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Oak Valley Baptist Church Building Fund in Franklin or the Opry Trust Fund.

George Hamilton IV is best known for the song 'Abilene,' which he co-wrote with John D. Loudermilk in 1963. Other iconic songs include ‘Before This Day Ends,’ ‘Three Steps to the Phone’ and ‘She’s a Little Bit Country.’
