Sioux Falls loses its status as the haven for lowest fuel prices in South Dakota. Taking the mantle is Vermillion according to a weekly survey.

South Dakota’s average pump price rose six cents over the past week. The current mark of $2.75 is the highest it has been all year according to a report from AAA.

Coming in lowest in the weekly roundup is Vermillion with $2.63 with Sioux Falls second lowest overall price at $2.67. However, Sioux Falls had the biggest price hike in the survey with motorists paying almost 13 cents more this week than last week.

In a press release from AAA South Dakota, spokeswoman Marilyn Buskohl believes the spike will subside soon. “Most market experts continue to believe gas prices are nearing a seasonal high due to the completion of seasonal refinery maintenance and abundant crude oil supplies. In the meantime, motorists in South Dakota are paying about 87 cents more per gallon today than they did on Jan. 19, the day the average stood at its 2015 low of $1.94.”

The report also cites a national average price for regular gasoline moving higher over six of the past seven days, reaching an average of $2.80 per gallon. Despite the rise in pump prices, drivers continue to experience significant year-over-year savings at the pump with today’s U.S. average price about 86 cents per gallon less than it was on this same date last year.
