GARRETSON, S.D. (AP) — Residents of Garretson are deciding whether to opt out of the state property tax freeze.

KDLT-TV reports the measure being voted on Tuesday would generate an additional $500,000 over five years for Garretson schools.

Dropping enrollment over the past decade has led to financial woes for the school district.

The Argus Leader newspaper reports the measure would increase taxes by about $328 annually on a $100,000 home and about $54 annually on $100,000 worth of farmland.
